Health services administrators lead and manage hospitals, clinics, and other health care agencies. They work with state and federal agencies and with governing boards to determine policies and procedures, then ensure that these policies are carried out so that the agency or institution runs smoothly. They provide leadership to the various health care professionals and support staff of their institutions. The administrators job includes planning and budget development, patient services administration, personnel issues, and preparing reports. In larger institutions, administrators may manage individual departments or projects.
