Engineering Cluster: Advanced Manufacturing

Engineering Manager*
Plan, direct, or coordinate activities in specific fields of engineering or research and development in these fields.11-9041

Computer Hardware Engineer
Research, design, develop, and test computer or computer-related equipment for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use. May supervise the manufacturing and installation of computer or computer-related equipment and components.

Computer Software Engineer
Develop, create, and modify general computer applications software or specialized utility programs. Analyze user needs and develop software solutions. Design software or customize software for client use with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency. May analyze and design databases within an application area.

Aerospace Engineer
Perform a variety of engineering work in designing, constructing, and testing aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft. May conduct basic and applied research to evaluate adaptability of materials and equipment to aircraft design and manufacture. May recommend improvements in testing equipment and techniques.

Biomedical Engineer
Apply knowledge of engineering, biology, and biomechanical principles to the design, development, and evaluation of biological and health systems and products, such as artificial organs, prostheses, instrumentation, medical information systems, and health management and care delivery systems.

Electrical Engineer
Research, design, develop, and test electronic components and systems for commercial, industrial, military, or scientific use utilizing knowledge of electronic theory and materials properties. Design electronic circuits and components for use in fields such as telecommunications, aerospace guidance and propulsion control, acoustics, or instruments and controls. 17-2071

Environmental and Facility Engineer
Design, plan, or perform engineering duties in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental health hazards utilizing various engineering disciplines. Work may include waste treatment, site remediation, or pollution control technology.17-2081

Industrial Engineer
Design, develop, test, and evaluate integrated systems for managing industrial production processes including human work factors, quality control, inventory control, logistics and material flow, cost analysis, and production coordination. 17-2112

Manufacturing Engineer
Design work processes, tools and/or machines of varying types for use in the manufacture of company products. Set up new equipment, ensure its satisfactory operation and instruct others to use the new equipment properly. Write procedures for operating new or existing equipment.

Mechanical Engineer
Perform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment as centralized heat, gas, water, and steam systems.17-2141

Structural/Civil Engineer
Perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and overseeing construction and maintenance of building structures, and facilities, such as roads, railroads, airports, bridges, harbors, channels, dams, irrigation projects, pipelines, power plants, water and sewage systems, and waste disposal units. Includes architectural, structural, traffic, ocean, and geo-technical engineers.17-2051

Quality Engineer
Develop and operate quality control systems, application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures, use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices, and link human factors with quality cost concepts and techniques.Develop and administer management information systems and audit quality systems. Safety Engineer
Plan, implement, and coordinate safety programs, requiring application of engineering principles and technology, to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions.17-2111

Engineering Technician
Assist engineering staff. Prepare parts sketches and write work orders and purchase requests. Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications. 17-3029
