Production-Metal-Plastics-Fabrication Cluster: Advanced Manufacturing

Tool and Die Maker
Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinistsÂ’ hand tools.

CNC Supervisor
Supervise and coordinate the activities of CNC operators and programmers.

CNC Programmer
Develop the programs that run machine tools. Review and develop three-dimensional computer aided/automated design (CAM) blueprints of the part and determine the sequence of events that will be needed to make the part and develops a set of instructions for the computer controlled machine to follow in producing the part. (OOH)

CNC Machinist
Set up and operate a variety of CNC machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

CNC Operator
Setup, operate, and monitor computer-controlled machines or robots to perform one or more machine functions on metal or plastic work pieces. (O*net and OOH)

Specialist Machinist
Operate and program a wide variety of machining equipment and produce products that meet high quality standards.

Machinist
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. Machinist Trainee
Learn to produce parts for industrial machines, aircraft, cars and trucks, as well as other products.

Sheet Metal Technician 3
Produces metal parts using various tooling and machines with limited direction from his/her supervisor

Sheet Metal Technician 2
Produces and assembles metal parts using various tooling and machines

Sheet Metal Technician 1
Learns how to and assists in the process of producing and assembling metal parts using various tooling and machines.
